Correlation Functions of the Apm Clusters of Galaxies

چکیده
We have found that the two-point correlation function of the APM clusters of galaxies has an amplitude much higher than that claimed by the APM group. As the richness limit increases from R = 53 to 80, the correlation length increases from 17.5 to 28.9 hMpc. This indicates that the richness dependence of the APM cluster correlation function is also much stronger than what the APM group has reported. The richness dependence can be represented by a fitting formula r0 = 0.53dc + 0.01, which is consistent with the Bahcall’s formula r0 = 0.4dc. We have tried to find the possible reason for discrepancies. However, our estimates for the APM cluster correlation function are found to be robust against variation of the method of calculation and of sample definition.

Correlation Functions of the Abell, Apm, and X-ray Clusters of Galaxies
We have measured the correlation functions of the optically selected clusters of galaxies in the Abell and the APM catalogs, and of the X-ray clusters in the X-ray-Brightest Abell-type Clusters of galaxies (XBACs) catalog and the Brightest Clusters Sample (BCS). The same analysis method and the same method of characterizing the resulting correlation functions are applied to all observational sa...
متن کاملNon radial motions in a CDM model
We show how non-radial motions, originating in the outskirts of clusters of galaxies, may reduce the discrepancy between the Cold Dark Matter (CDM) predicted X-ray temperature distribution function of clusters of galaxies and the observed one and also the discrepancy between the CDM predicted two-point correlation function of clusters of galaxies and that observed. We compare Edge et al. (1990)...
متن کاملThe Power Spectrum of Matter
We calculate the mean power spectrum of galaxies using published power spectra of galaxies and clusters of galaxies. The mean power spectrum of cluster samples as well as APM 3-D, IRAS QDOT, and SSRS+CfA2 galaxy samples has a relatively sharp maximum at wavenumber k = 0.05±0.01 h Mpc, followed by an almost exact power-law spectrum of index n ≈ −1.9 toward smaller scales. The power spectrum foun...
متن کاملDetailed Analysis of the Cross-Correlation Function between the X-Ray Background and Foreground Galaxies
Recent ROSAT surveys suggest that galaxies can constitute the new class of faint sources required to explain the full phenomenology of the cosmic X-Ray Background (XRB). To test this hypothesis without resorting to optical identifications, we compute the two-point cross-correlation function (CCF) estimator Wxg(θ) between 62 EinsteinIPC fields (.81-3.5 keV) and the APM Northern galaxy catalog (1...
متن کاملExtragalactic Foregrounds of the Cosmic Microwave Background: Prospects for the MAP Mission
While the major contribution to the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies are the sought-after primordial fluctuations produced at the surface of last scattering, other effects produce secondary fluctuations at lower redshifts. Here, we study the extragalactic foregrounds of the CMB in the context of the upcoming MAP mission. We first survey the major extragalactic foregrounds and show...
